All About Us
Relate & Grow was created as a division of Pro Health Care Services by parents who have experienced first-hand the challenges and joys of raising children with special needs. They have been personally providing intensive intervention using the DIR/ Floortime model with great success under the supervision of Dr. Solomon at The P.L.A.Y. Project. Because of this background, we understand how difficult it can be when a son or daughter is diagnosed as having special needs. There is often a feeling of disbelief and sadness followed by an avalanche of information on intervention approaches, providers and possible outcomes. It can be stressful sorting through all of this information while at the same time coming to terms with the idea that your child is going to need extra help. Quite often parents find it difficult to relate to their child and don't know how to help them move ahead. This can create frustration as you feel that you must wait for others to try to "fix" your child.
As the expert on your own child, you already know that he or she does not need to be "fixed". Your child is simply in need of extra support to move ahead in some specific areas and probably has areas in which he or she is advanced for their age. You should also know that, you, the parent, are very capable of providing your child with high-quality, intensive intervention that will help him or her build emotional connections and engage in meaningful relationships. This in turn will lead to gains in social, communication and language skills, and stronger relationships with family and peers.
At Relate & Grow we aim to empower and educate parents in taking on a decisive role in their child's intervention. As you may already know, intensive intervention is extremely important for young children with special needs. Because of their brain's "plasticity", young children are able to learn quickly and their brain can "rewire" itself to compensate for deficits they may have. Our current services are based on the developmental therapy model of DIR/Floortime. At the core of our service offerings is our P.L.A.Y. Project-certified Home Consulting Program which meets the ''intensive intervention'' recommendations of the National Academy of Sciences and is the primary intensive intervention other than ABA. It operates under the rationale that parents spend more time with their children than all their teachers and therapists combined, therefore parents trained in P.L.A.Y.'s developmental approach can provide intensive, high- quality and affordable intervention throughout the day.
Our services at Relate & Grow will help you to guide your child up the developmental ladder by working with his or her unique needs and strengths. We hope you will consider our Home Consulting Program whether as supplement to your child's current program or as the main intervention along with his team of therapists. We hope to meet you soon!
